Irish firm made deal with Laos for .la TLD

The firm is apparently marketing .la to citizens of Los Angeles, California: Los Angeles is the world's first and only city to receive its own unique Internet address; .la. [www.la] The domains are steep, however, at $50 a year, considering you can generally register .com for much cheaper. It will be interesting to monitor for trademark violations and cybersquatting.
