Most Disturbing Resume Ever
I received an email and attachment for today entitled The Most Disturbing Resume/Cover Letter Ever [update: The Smoking Gun has posted it].
What I find hilarious about this is that the lawyers and paralegals who are forwarding this (at some of the larger law firms around the country thanks to the fwd trail) don't realize that this person, in the eyes of their superiors, is probably the most perfect candidate ever. They also probably have no idea how hard it is to find a big firm job in the current (2001 - present) economy.
The highlights: 3,000 billable hours; total dedication to the firm going so far as to put work before family (funerals, weddings etc.) and at the unbelievably low price of only $75,000 per year.
Let's assume since he's a first year that 2,500 hours are productive at $200/hr equals $500,000 a year minus his salary and costs bring a gross profit of about $400,000. Where else can you get such a great return on your investment.
In my opinion, there's absolutely nothing disturbing about this resume because this is exactly what big law firms are looking for!
footnote: I would provide a link to the resume but since its pdf I can't erase his name and I think it's bad enough that all these big firms are so lax as to breach the confidentiality of the resumes they receive as to allow it to be circulated in the first place.
In fact, the cover letter is addressed to Wolff & Samson, PC so I think we can start allaying blame for such a breach there.
Update: Apparently, it's not what the big firms want -- inside info is telling me that this guy is still looking for a job after getting rejected by some NJ firms. I'm not buying that he's not hirable, my old firm would absolutley love him. At least he's getting his 15 minutes thanks to The Smoking Gun.
'nother update: Mentioned this episode to my buddy who is a 2001 Tulane Law grad: "Yeah, he's making a great name for us."
