On the hunt for a Spammer

Andy Markley almost lost his business, reputation, website and sanity to a spammer spoofing his email address and sending hundreds of emails for prescription pharmaceuticals from his domain. After several unsuccessful attempts of trying to deter the spammer, Markley decided to fight back: Spam: This Time It's Personal
Markley checked the headers on the original spam returned with some of the bounces. Then he learned how to access domain-registry information and how to use a trace-route program.

Over the next two weeks, he painstakingly worked his way through a half-dozen hijacked servers and a dozen spoofed e-mail addresses and bogus identities to find "his" ... nemesis ... Eddy Marin....

Markley then tracked down and contacted Marin's ISP of the moment, WCG.net, and told the tech support staff what had been happening. Within a few hours, Marin's account had been canceled.
