Y'all Want A Single

If anyone listened to Howard Stern friday morning you would have heard him discuss both the new Korn video and his own predicament: Stern believes that the FCC with Clear Channel's help will force Viacom to take him off the air for broadcasting indecency. The Korn video Y'all Want A Single takes place in a record store where Korn and consumers completely trash it in a violent frenzy interspersed with relevant questions about the music and radio industries current practices. I've tried to compile a complete list of them here:
  • music monopoly?

  • One corporation owns the 5 major video channels in the US - is that ok?

  • the "music" industry made 25 billion ... over 90% of albums don't make a profit.

  • the "music" industry releases 100 new songs per week ... only 4 are added to the "average" radio station playlist.

  • why is a song worth .99 cents? do you download songs?

  • steal this video.

  • two radio conglomerates control 42% of listeners

  • 90% of songs get to the "hook" within 20 seconds -- 98% of all #1 singles are less than 3 minutes and 30 seconds long -- does this seem like a formula to you?

  • the record company wanted to change this video -- we didn't.
  • I tried to preserve the order and integrity of Korn's statements, but these aren't complete or completely accurate.

Update: Korn have released a remix of their latest single, "Y'All Want a Single," with commentary from Howard Stern on www.korn.com
