VSDA joins Piracy Battle
The Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA), following their free speech victory in Washington State have approved a resolution which supports the MPAA's public education campaign (Hollywood's version of the Constitution); supports the motion picture industry's legal efforts to shut down Grokster and Morpheus (meaning they support the INDUCE/IICA Act which would legislatively overturn Betamax and in turn legislate that p2p is illegal despite the fact that these services have been adjudicated not liable for for copyright infringement); endorses appropriately targeted lawsuits against individuals engaged in file-swapping of movies (which has worked so well for the RIAA); supports the global enactment of laws to ensure adequate deterrence against copyright infringement (Pirate Act), as well as efficient and swift justice, while protecting lawful uses, and in particular supports enactment of laws to hold peer-to-peer file-swapping networks responsible for the copyright infringement they facilitate (INDUCE Act), make the camcording of motion pictures in theaters a crime (Art Act), and enhance the penalties for those who make copies of movies available on the Internet before their release on home video (PDEA); urges the development of multiple lawful alternatives to file-swapping; and supports digital rights management technologies while respecting the rights of retailers and consumers under the First Sale provision of U.S. copyright law.
