free iPods?

UPDATE via CRC.

I just gave away all my info to freeipods.com (referrer ID embedded) in exchange for a 20gb iPod after reading about it on Wired News who has apparently done the research and confirmed that the company is actually shipping iPods to the people who have signed up.

Techdirt thinks its a spam scam: "Their privacy policy (which does not appear to show up in Firefox) admits that they're going to give your info to 'marketing partners.'" (see also ToS)

Update: Only 3 of my referrals have completed their offers so I have no idea as of yet whether this is a legit service. I will continue to monitor the situation and report back with the results of whether I receive the free 20gb iPod or if I just get scammed/spammed.

1800flowers is just giving them away (sorta).

Update: Someone in the Techdirt comments says that "schemes like this are illegal in the US, where they are part of the purchase requirement. In the case of a "prize", I do not know whether there's a loophole."

Chris Rush Cohen points me to this Gizmodo link on how to game the system.

Marketing Partners
I have received emails from iegoa.com, ibyca.com and corero.com so far.

Proof? My cousin emails to tell me that someone got theirs.

[thanks Chris!]
