"Disney argues that the book is in the public domain whereas Great Ormond Hospital contends that the Copyright Term Extension Act extends the copyright until 2007." Disney Sued for Infringing Peter Pan
Disney wants complete control in perpetuity for works which they've stolen/borrowed from the public domain (Mickey Mouse for example) as well as the right and ability to continue to profit from others copyrights (e.g. Pooh, Pan). Just so you're fully aware the type of company Disney is (publicly traded that is) -- the London children's hospital uses its royalties from licensing Peter Pan to help sick children.
