places to go people to read

I've only been away for a few days -- but they've been quite an exciting few days. Thank you to everyone for the nice comments and emails re Juliet. I'm not back yet -- just trying to do some catching up. (By the way -- each of these deserve a seperate and more expansive post -- you'll have to excuse my brevity).

Good luck Ev and thanks. [via]

Congrats Nick on your three new "babies": Jalopnik, Kotaku and Screenhead.

Bravo Judge Marrero: Judge bars Patriot Act searches as illegal. [ruling - pdf]

Chris Rush Cohen on a New Intellectual Property Political Action Committee.

Jason Schultz: If you misuse DMCA take down notices, you can be liable for damages under section 512(f). (ed: Die Diebold!)

Does anyone else watch last comic standing? I really enjoyed Alonzo tonight.

The now departed David Maizenberg on Why getting legal information from the mainstream press is a bad idea:
They get it wrong. Deadlines are short, most legal reporters are not lawyers, and, let's face it, reading lengthy legal opinions is boring, whereas copying snappy press releases is fun! If you want to be informed about legal developments, including breaking appellate decisions, go to the legal blogs. Except. . . on reflection, I realize that you can't. The leading appellate blogger simply links to stories in MS[N]. What a shame. Maybe one day we'll have a legal blogger who independently reads and analyzes breaking appellate decisions. Then the reporters can check with him (or her), rather than a press release, before they write their stories.
more to come.....
