UPDATE: Apparently, the Joke referrred to in my post has been around at least since 1999 judging by this IP: Holiday News Flash. It is also listed as joke 754 in the Email Joke Archive.
Whether this is evidence enough to oppose the WB trademark registrations, I leave up to you.
