Belly Up to the Bar IV

Thanks to everyone who submitted material for this week. I attempted to organize somewhat, but I have a massive sinus infection so I wasn't able to complete what I had in mind. Anyway enjoy. Belly Up to the Bar V will be hosted by Al at Naked Ownership. Get your submissions in.

- Rick Klau is running for Naperville Township Trustee. Trustee is only a part-time position, but Rick feels he can effect the most change by getting involved locally. You can visit his website here. If you're in Naperville, make sure to get out to the polls and Vote Rick.

- The Greatest American Lawyer reaffirms the good things which technology makes possible. After an unfortunate family event, GAL is learning that technology can offer him the flexibility to juggle client matters, expert witnesses, and settlement documents from home along with snow forts, dirty diapers, naps and hot chocolate with the kids. Talk about your work/family balance.
counterpoint: Unintended Consequences of Technology.

- Stephen Nipper sent me a quick fyi that "lawsuits are killing innovation"; that's what Matt Haughey is saying in this post responding to Why Hasn't TiVo Improved?.

- Ethical Esq. on Implied Disclaimers: "Henceforth, please consider the following disclaimers -- unless specifically disclaimed -- to be applicable to anything I write on the Web or in any other sectors of cyberspace". That's a pretty broad disclaimer. There are, however, exceptions to every rule, and David points out that lawyers are capable of satire and everything one writes on their site is their viewpoint. What does he think this is -- a blog?

- Apparently, Microsoft was none too happy with Engadget's coverage of Windows Mobile 2005. Jason Calacanis, founder of weblogsinc, doesn't understand why the lawyers had to be sicced on him when a simple call would have done the trick. In the end, though, Jason was happy that Robert Scoble got involved.

Kevin at Lexblog asks whether Lawyer's have a moral obigation to blog and concludes that the ethical rules guidelines require public interest legal service, so why not? I'll assume he saw my pro bono post.
