Is Beer More Important than Marketing?

Kevin O'Keefe doesn't think so. In response to a Glenn Reynolds quote in a NYT article today
My sense is that a lot of bloggers, including people with a lot less traffic than mine, are finding that the blog ads let it be a hobby that is effectively free for them and maybe even generates a little beer money. That seems to me to be a pretty good thing.
Kevin says that
lawyers have a golden opportunity to showcase their legal expertise via professional marketing blogs. Advertising has no place on a professional marketing blog.
Good thing this isn't a professional marketing blog, cause I sure do like beer!

This debate is endless. Can lawyers use blogads? Can lawyers use adsense? The truth is -- who really visits the home page ... so does it matter?

If you want answers you need to ask someone like Matt Haughey who is convinced that
things like Google's adsense ads work because they're tied so well to the content of what someone is saying, and the best place for them to appear is in archived posts. When random folks do a search and find your post about a subject while they are researching the subject, ads that are closely related often help out the research.
The fact that I use adsense doesnt take away from what I'm saying, but it certainly is useful in letting me buy an extra pint or two buy generating a few shillings on posts that I have long forgotten about.
