Sony sends a cease-and-desist to Beatallica

I'm hosting their torrents, and I won't take them down even if Sony tells me to; they're perfectly legal cover songs
update: Even Lars Approves of Beatallica. Of course he does -- if you watch Some Kind of Monster, it seeems that he rather regrets the fan backlash thtat his Napster sought caused.

Heh, nice of you to say. I've buckled to my share of cease-and-desist notices before, but only because I knew I'd lose each case under current copyright law, no matter how idiotic and short-sighted those laws may be.

But here's an example where the lawyer is completely misunderstanding the nature of the recordings, probably assuming that the Beatallica tracks are sampling the Beatles.

I doubt they even listened to any of the songs before firing off the cease-and-desist, or they would have immediately realized that they're cover songs! (I don't think they'd technically fall under "parody," like the petition says.)

Because they're cover songs, and not using the original recordings, they have no legal grounds for infringement at all.

I've been hosting the Beatallica torrents for a long time, and have no intention of stopping any time soon.

I must refute your headline. He's nothing but a brown-noser, trying to fit in with the big guys.

Who are the big boys that he is trying to fit in with? Not sure I understand your post.
