Primary Function: Intellectual Property Attorney. Supports all activities of the I.P. Department, including patent application preparation, patent application prosecution, licensing, product clearance studies, opinion drafting, legal counseling and education of employees, and managing and monitoring I.P. work performed by outside counsel.
Duties: Primary focus: counseling a product division regarding all I.P. issues, e.g., product clearance studies, opinion drafting, licensing, patent disclosure review, patent application preparation and patent prosecution.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Must have legal opinion drafting skills and client counseling skills, coupled with sound understanding of electrical and electronic circuits and devices.
Experience: AT LEAST FOUR YEARS OF I.P. LAW EXPERIENCE
Education and Training: Must have a BSEE degree; JD Degree; Member of Patent Bar; Member of California Bar (or willingness to sit for California Bar Exam).

Position Description: Manage the two mainstream claims units in the Specialty Professional Liability department specializing in Multimedia, Technology, Intellectual Property and Internet liability claims. Supervise, assess and develop personnel and process personnel appraisals and salary adjustments. Establish and implement procedures to improve efficiency of work flows. Communicate significant case developments to senior management, underwriting, actuaries and all relevant customers. Conduct marketing calls with Underwriting. Manage Reinsurance issues and participate in audits.
Experience in handling legal disputes in the intellectual property and technology fields, i.e. possessing a J.D. is a plus. Should have significant experience in complex claims handling and coverage issues. Ability to communicate clearly and delegate effectively to subordinates necessary. Should display strong organizational skills with ability to establish efficient and effective business processes. Focus on details without compromising the overall goals set forth by senior management is necessary. Must be able to motivate people, identify strengths and weaknesses of personnel and address personnel needs by establishing employee development strategies. Needs a command of underwriting dynamics and reinsurance.
